Welcome to the Apocalyptic Landscaping, Inc. website.

We are a competitive (but not competing currently) PC multiplayer FPS gaming clan, with a long and diverse history in gaming. The core of this clan is composed of a group of people who have gamed together for years and banded together to maintain a friendly and easy-going atmosphere of fun. We expect to have fun playing our games, and we expect those who play with us to have fun as well.

We're not about "1337n355", could care less if you're from CAL or not, and despise cheats and hacks with a passion. We like FPS games that reward skilled shooting, infantry-level maneuvers, and have the console retardation factor turned down at least a little bit (hard these days...) Since there aren't really any games like that anymore we are currently playing CoD:WaW - at least it's kind of sort of close to old-school UO, and that's better than nothing.

History: The gaming history of this clan extends back into the pre-multiplayer Stone Age days of 8-bit consoles and computers, with some members having been gamers during the late '70s and early '80s on console and computer systems like Atari 2600, Odessey2, Colecovision, Apple II, Commodore 64, and NES. That's right, 8-bit computing and you're lucky if you get some "bonk" sounds and maybe 3 or 4 colors at a resolution of 80*40 pixels...

After the advent of the PC in 1981, it was only a matter of time before a couple of genius-type people figured out how to connect two or more machines in order to achieve a true head-to-head multiplayer capability - and about another 15 years before games worth playing that way became possible. With the explosion in computing power, software sophistication, VOIP technologies and the Internet it soon became possible to play true multiplayer FPS games while speaking directly with fellow players - which is where our roots lie.

Between the various members of this group, games that have been extensively played for multiplayer (but are not limited to): DOOM, Duke Nukem3D, Quake, Quake II, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, Delta Force, Team Fortress, Battlefield 1942, Unreal Tournament ('99), Counter-Strike, Tribes, Unreal2:XMP, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, RTCW: Enemy Territory, Unreal Tournament 2003, Planetside, Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Far Cry, Brothers In Arms, Red Faction, Unreal Tournament 2004, Call of Duty: United Offensive, Battlefield: Vietnam, Counter-Strike:Source, Battlefield 2, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Call of Duty 2, Battlefield 2142, Unreal Tournament 3, Frontlines: Fuel Of War, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, Call Of Duty:World At War and Battlefield Bad Company 2..

Our core group also comprised the core group of the highly-successful CoD, CoD:UO, and CoD2 clan known as the 3rd Recon Battalion (3RB). The 3RB held #1 ladder positions in both the OGL and TWL gaming leagues during 2004 and 2005 in Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, and Base Assault gametypes. We held that Base Assault position almost unchecked for over a year. Yes, we played in CAL - but UO for CAL in 2004/5 was a hacktastic nightmare with no league provisions to remove cheating - so we left - competing against blatant aimbots, wallhacks, and speedbots wasn't our idea of a good time or fair fighting. Also, the 3RB held some #1 slots in Call of Duty 2, before most of the clan realized what a steaming pile of shit that game was for gamers. We withdrew from competition, and quietly retired on July 27th, 2006 - but we were waiting for the "next" game. That time is now here, and it is time for a new clan, some new blood, and some new ass-kicking.

Mission Statement: We are a group of friends who are determined to have fun playing this latest generation of shooters. We play for fun on our servers, and we play for keeps in when and if we compete. We welcome all true gamers with open arms - but despise spoilers, lamers, cheaters and other blights on the Internet, and deal with them swiftly.

Welcome and Enjoy!

Memorial Day 2010

Quote

Perform, then, this one act of remembrance before this Day passes - Remember there is an army of defense and advance that never dies and never surrenders, but is increasingly recruited from the eternal sources of the American spirit and from the generations of American youth. ~W.J. Cameron

Remember the fallen, the gifts they have bestowed us at such an expense, and thank them in your hearts. Without the sacrifices made by our military, our nation would not be the beacon of liberty it is. Take a moment between hamburgers and beers to reflect on this. Have a happy and safe holiday, don't go do anything (too) stupid!

PBBans and BFBC2

Everyone hates cheaters - excepting maybe some of those bad reality television shows - so we're trying to go through some of the legwork to get involved in active streaming as a PBBans hub with our Battlefield Bad Company 2 server (68.232.162.139:19567).

Why is this important?

We've been running game servers for years and years and have done a very good job of weeding out and banning blatant cheaters with the tools at our disposal. Quite frankly I don't think Punkbuster by itself is keeping up with these people. Not to demerit the product (this is just my opinion), but the only thing that has been keeping the hacks at bay for the most part over the past years has been vigilant administration. PB has for the most part been the first line in a many-layered defense against cheats, but the final decider has usually been the keen spectating eye of an administrator. We have always had top-notch server admins, most of whom have participated in league-level gaming and some whom have even officiated in gaming leagues.

Unfortunately, as great a game as BFBC2 is, it does lack some basic features to which we've become accustomed to over the years - such as a Spectate Mode and direct access to PB screenshotting and other functions. Without the ability to directly observe the behavior of in-game players we are effectively crippled in weeding out these people - so we need a way to make the tools at our disposal better.

That intensifier is PBBans:
PBBans Website

PBBans is a community-driven effort to increase the detection rate of cheaters and "spread word" of them between those participating in the program. In short, detections that are made spread themselves out to all servers that are "streaming" - if a hacker is banned on one server, within minutes (or even seconds!) that player will no longer be able to play on any streaming-enabled servers. In addition, the detections that are made are fed back to the manufacturer of PB, enabling them to create better detections and feed those back into the cycle. Banlists and improved detections are continuously streamed to the participating servers. It is a simple and effective way to greatly reduce the amount of oxygen-wasting choads that are playing out there. I have always supported PBBans' efforts, and have always felt more secure on servers that announced they were streaming...

With that said, I think it's time to join in - we're small but every little bit helps. If our participation keeps our server clean, that's great. If our participation helps keep all servers clean - that's even better.

I have configured our server to stream, and am placing an application again. I'll keep you guys in the loop.

I think everyone around here knows my feelings on people who employ hacks to "win", but for those who don't I'm one of those people who thinks that slow painful torture isn't harsh enough. I have to deal with computer security every day of my life, and I lump game-hackers in with the same scumbags who cause untold amounts of damage every day with the crap they spread around - so when I get home from umpteen hours of computer madness I really don't want to spend my relaxation time dealing with the same mentality ruining my fun. I don't need the additional stress, really.

Every little bit helps, let's join a community that helps make gaming better.
